The Mint Julep is a mixed alcoholic drink, or cocktail, that originates from the Southern United States. The word 'julep' is derived from the Persian 'julab' meaning "rose water". There are a number of ways to make a mint julep, and all are served on the rocks over crushed ice in a julep glass—specifically a highball glass—with a narrow cocktail straw. It is correct to use the straw when drinking this cocktail.
