A shot glass is a small, unstemmed glass designed to hold or measure liquor, generally about 1 1/2 ounce, which is either drunk straight from the glass ("a shot") or poured into a mixed drink.
“Jigger” and “pony” are earlier names for a container used to measure a standard quantity of liquor.
Shot glasses decorated with a wide variety of humorous pictures, toasts, and advertising, are popular souvenirs and collectibles. Care must be taken when drinking from such glasses, as some of the decorations contain lead.
