Simple syrup is a basic sugar-and-water syrup used to make drinks at bars.

Simple syrup is made by stirring sugar into hot water in a sauce pan until the sugar is dissolved and the solution is allowed to cool. Generally, the ratio of sugar to water can range anywhere from 1:1 to 2:1.
Different sugars may be used to produce simple syrup: granulated, powdered or even corn syrup.
Simple syrup is commercially available.
